It was outside of China that WeChat organised this challenge for developers for the first time. A two-step operation initiated by Tencent to develop mini programs based on current challenges faced by their partners was called WeChat Developer Challenge, which took place on August 2 in Singapore.
The overall goal was for these mini programs to address the needs of Chinese travellers in SEA. This competition gathered six Southeast Asian industry giants—Grab Taxi, Singapore Airlines, Resorts World, Resorts World Sentosa, L’Oréal Group, and SACEOS—and outlined the challenges.
Thirty developing companies have since participated in the competition; five companies competed for a prize in each industry. Our CEO and founder, the VP of Digital & Innovation at SACEOS, Veemal Gungadin, was invited to formulate the challenge for the event industry.
We are happy to share that the main winner came from the event industry! Congratulations to Mad About Design for winning the top prize of the WeChat Developer Challenge!
About WeChat mini-programs:
WeChat mini-programs are considered to be what makes the ecosystem even more powerful! There are more than one million mini-programs on the market, covering 200 categories and engaging more than 200 million daily users. In this way, mini-programs have become the source of doing almost everything in China, from finding love to ordering food, etc. Nowadays, mini-programs cover a huge range of different needs and services of WeChat users on a daily basis. The total prize pool for the latest mini program was $34,000.
We would like to thank the organisers for taking such a great initiative and providing opportunities to young developers!
